Fast Times and Lightsabers

I chose this to be my troll quote for multiple reasons. For one, the Jedi order are some really strict guys. They shun marriage, love, or emotional connections of any kind. In fact, Anakin Skywalker was denied the title of Jedi Master simply because of his relationship with Padme. I’d like to think of Obi-Wan as one of the more relaxed ones, but he is much more passionate about the rules than most. His master Qui-Gon Jinn, for example, was the one who first took in Anakin even though the Jedi said he was too old to train, and too emotionally connected with his mother(who normally would have been separated from her child at birth to be raised by the Jedi to sever that connection).

If you know the source of this quote, then you probably found this one funny. Yes, this quote is from the late great Anthony Bourdain, in his book, which I’m currently reading, Kitchen Confidential. Bourdain was someone who tried just about everything, and this quote applied not just to the kinds of things he ate just to prove a point, but also to his lasting addictions. I’d like to think of Bourdain sitting down with Kenobi to a drink of blue milk in some dive on Coruscant. What would they talk about?

Kenobi, in his younger years, might not have tolerated the snarky, progressive Bourdain’s views on the Clone Wars and the Republic. But I feel that the Kenobi, as we know him in the original trilogy, of course, portrayed by the genius Alec Guinness, would put up with him and even have a good time. Clearly, by his willingness to tolerate Luke’s teenage antics, he had improved his patience. However, is there any context where Kenobi might have said anything like this? No.
